Crash and Fire-proof digital Video Recorder (CFVR)

Large commercial aircraft and some smaller commercial, corporate, and private aircraft are required by the different aviation authorities to be equipped with two "black boxes" that record information about a flight. Both recorders are installed to help reconstruct the events leading to an aircraft accident. One of these, the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), records radio transmissions and sounds in the cockpit, such as the pilot's voices and engine noises. The other, the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), monitors parameters such as altitude, airspeed and heading. The CFVR is adding visual information of the cockpit and the passengers’ cabin to the investigation of an aircraft accident and together with the CVR and the FDR offers better understanding of the events leading to such an accident.

The CFVR is a unique digital video recorder that was design to meet international standards of flight data recorders for crash and fire proof resistance. The CFVR was designed to meet current and future needs of digital video recording in aircrafts, unmanned airborne vehicles (UAVs) and missiles. The CFVR’s maximum size is 140mm diameter and weight of 1.2kg (required for aircrafts, a lighter version will be available for small UAVs and missiles), has a memory capacity that allows storing digital video data for more than 24 hours and its power consumption gets to a maximum of 5W, making it ideal for aircrafts of all sizes and in the same time for small UAVs and missiles. The CFVR was developed by Unisor in cooperation with JCE TECHPRIBOR, an international developer and manufacturer of products and instruments for aircrafts.
